Standing Committees

The Activities Committee organizes and approves educational, social, and cross-cultural events on campus throughout the academic year. The underlying focus is to increase ASI's visibility on campus. This committee is authorized to approve any programming requests that go over $6,000 and that will utilize the Activities, Special Events account.

The Elections Committee is charged with conducting ASI's Student Government Elections in conformance with the ASI Bylaws and the Elections Policy. This committee will ensure the facilitation of a fair election process (for candidates and students voting) by recruitment, review of violations and resolving disputes.

The Executive Committee is responsible for dealing with all emergency matters concerning the Corporation, which normally would fall under the ASI BoD, and that cannot be postponed. All actions shall be reported to the ASI BoD at the next regularly scheduled meeting. This committee is prohibited from acting in the following areas, which are reserved specifically for the ASI BoD, as defined in Article III, Section 1, Subsection D of the Bylaws.

The Finance Committee is responsible for receiving, reviewing and preparing recommendations to the ASI BoD on all financial matters concerning allocations and expenditures of corporate funds. This committee is responsible for reviewing the preparation of the annual budget as presented by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or their designee.

ASI's Lobby Corps. advocate on matters affecting higher education at the local and state levels. This committee convenes to learn about policy development and legislation, and trains with other CSU students at the California Higher Education Student Summit (CHESS) to organize lobby visits with government officials at the State Capitol.

The PDC Advisory Committee reviews and prepares recommendations on all matters regarding ASI at the Palm Desert Campus. This committee is also tasked with reviewing the PDC budget and may assist with the planning of ASI events at the Palm Desert Campus.

The Personnel & Development Committee reviews and makes recommendations to the ASI BoD on all matters related to elected positions of ASI. This group is responsible for creating and organizing development opportunities for student leaders of ASI. Additionally, they develop and recommend to the ASI BoD initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Corporation. Lastly, this committee will work on strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability of the corporation and succession planning.

The Policy Committee reviews and amends corporate policies, procedures, and bylaws. Although the committee may amend corporate documents as deemed necessary, amendments must be brought to the ASI BoD for final approval. This committee will also have the authority to create and recommend new policies to the ASI BoD.

The Vacany Committee is charged with filling the student vacancies on the ASI BoD. They will review applications, conduct interviews, and facilitate the selection process, and then make the recommendations to the ASI BoD. This committee will also be responsible for the mentorship of newly appointed BoD positions.

The Sustainability Committee prepares recommendations to the ASI BoD on all sustainability measures and develops measures to make ASI operations more sustainable. They also work alongside campus partners to develop efforts around sustainability through education, promotion, and dialogue with the students and community of CSUSB.
