Cal State San Bernardino graduate student Katherine Yvonne Posada will present her Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition, “Raíces Salvadoreñas, Sueños Americanos (Salvadoran Roots, American Dreams),” at the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA) from Feb. 20-27. A reception is scheduled for Feb. 20, from 4-6 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
This exhibition explores the duality of identity, memory and heritage through an interdisciplinary approach. As the proud daughter of Latino immigrants, Posada carries the resilience, sacrifices and dreams of her family with her. Their courage and hard work have shaped her journey, and through ceramics, installation, found objects and video, she tells stories of cultural strength, familial ties, and the complexities of migration and belonging. Posada's identity as both an American and Salvadoran plays a key role in her work, bridging these two cultures and reflecting the richness of her lived experiences.
Through “Raíces Salvadoreñas, Sueños Americanos,” Posada aims to spark conversations about cultural appreciation, environmental awareness, and the shared human experience that transcends borders. By blending physical and sensory elements, this exhibition creates a space where personal narratives intersect with collective memory, honoring the traditions we carry because we are from here and from there — "de aquí y de allá.”
