The Department of Nursing at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus (PDC) participated in the 2nd Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Symposium on Nov. 6 at Eisenhower Health in Rancho Mirage.

Fourth- and fifth-semester nursing students attended the event, gaining valuable insights into real-world nursing research and evidence-based practice. Several PDC faculty and alumni were featured in the program, delivering podium and poster presentations.

Podium presentations included, “Transgender Curriculum Inclusion: Perspectives from University Students Studying Nursing and Social Work” by Justin Schneider, Brittany Bloodhart, and Nicole Arkadie, and “Foot Soaks for Unhoused People: Teaching Empathy and Communication Skills” by Diane Vines, Samantha Duffle, and Jason Davalos, a recent PDC nursing alumnus.

Timothy Ortiz, nursing faculty at PDC, earned first place for his poster presentation, “Preventing Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections in Acute Care Hospital.”

Additional posters were presented by PDC nursing students Mia Strathdee, Jennifer Cardenas and Shawna Parker, as well as Sheryll Go, part-time CSUSB nursing faculty.
