A premier event during Cal State San Bernardino’s Black History Month celebration, the 13th annual Pioneer Breakfast brought together 400 attendees on Feb. 27 to honor campus and community leaders while awarding 11 scholarships to 15 CSUSB students.
“This will strengthen AI technology in our workforce and provide all of you students with opportunities for retraining and training and growth in the VR and AI technology space,” said U.S. Rep. Pete Aguilar, as he formally announced the grant award at CSUSB’s Center for Cyber and AI.
“With this NSF grant, we will launch new academic programs in AI, establish a community-focused AI Help Desk, and expand research opportunities for all students in the Inland Empire,” said Yunfei Hou, principal investigator of the PROPEL AI program, director of CSUSB’s William and Barbara Leonard Transportation Center, and professor of computer science
Cal State San Bernardino hosted the 2025 ExCELS Scholarship Celebration, recognizing student achievements and the growth of the Experiential Computing and Engaged Learning Scholarships (ExCELS) Program, a National Science Foundation-funded initiative supporting computer science majors.
The 12th annual Pioneer Breakfast celebrated community members, campus partners and student scholarship recipients on Feb. 28. Organized by the Black Faculty, Staff and Student Association, the event remains a key highlight of CSUSB’s Black History Month festivities.
Michelle Decker, president and CEO of the Inland Empire Community Foundation, was honored with the CSUSB President’s Medal at the university’s President’s and Philanthropic Foundation Board Holiday Dinner on Dec. 7.
U.S. Rep. Pete Aguilar recently visited CSUSB to formally present a ceremonial check for $963,000 that will launch the Cybersecurity Center’s Tech and Workforce Hub Project.
CSUSB’s Cybersecurity Center received federal funds to launch a Tech and Workforce Hub Project, a forward-thinking initiative designed to propel students into cybersecurity careers and address the nation’s shortfall of qualified professionals in the field.
Tony Coulson (cybersecurity) was interviewed for a segment about CSUSB’s cybersecurity program receiving federal funds for its Tech and Workforce Hub project, and Stuart Sumida (biology) was mentioned in an article about the recently released movie, “Kung Fu Panda 4,” for which he served as a consultant.
