The Cal State San Bernardino (CSUSB) Palm Desert Campus celebrated the Class of 2026 with a joyful and heartfelt graduation reception on May 7, bringing together students, faculty, alumni, families and friends for an evening of recognition and pride.
Held on campus, the annual event honored graduating students through a formal program followed by a dinner celebration. The reception highlighted academic excellence while offering a meaningful opportunity to recognize the accomplishments and journeys of the graduates.
Avi Rodriguez, executive director of student engagement and completion at the Palm Desert Campus, served as master of ceremonies.
Speakers included Edna Martinez, associate vice president of the Palm Desert Campus; Chinaka DomNwachukwu, dean of the James R. Watson & Judy Rodriguez Watson College of Education; Alondra Lopez, vice president of PDC Associated Students, Inc.; and Brenda Franco Alcala, the Palm Desert Campus Outstanding Student for 2025-26.
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of Michelle Russen, assistant professor of hospitality management, who was named the Palm Desert Campus Outstanding Faculty Member for 2025-26.
In a touching tradition, each graduate took the podium to offer a personal “shout out” to those who supported them throughout their academic journey, expressing gratitude to family, friends and mentors. Students earning teaching credentials were also recognized as part of the ceremony.
The reception concluded with a celebratory dinner, marking the culmination of years of hard work and the beginning of new chapters for the Class of 2026.
