On Monday, April 20, Bodell, associate professor of kinesiology, was named 2025-26 Golden Apple award recipient for his service to the university, particularly for his dedication to teaching.
Yawen Li (social work) recently published a paper with her collaborators from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that investigated the use of electronic health care records in adult day care service centers, and found that a digital divide exists.
The award signifies excellence as a frontline instructor along with contributions to the professor’s discipline through scholarship and research, and also service to the campus and larger community.
The award recognizes the work of Jessica Nerren, a lecturer in the Department of Communication and Media, in and out of the classroom, and her advocacy for all students, especially the neurodiverse, to ensure they have the opportunity and resources to succeed at CSUSB.

One grant from the National Institutes of Health will fund a study looking at adult day services providers and how they adapt to changing demographics, technology and policies. The other grant will expand services at CSUSB’s Student Assistance in Learning (SAIL) program, including academic advising for low-income and first-generation students, as well as students with disabilities.
Yan Zhang, associate professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, is the recipient of Cal State San Bernardino’s 2024-25 Outstanding Service Award for her extensive, sustained service to students, the university and the broader academic and professional community.
