Annika Anderson, executive director of Project Rebound and associate professor of sociology, emphasizes the importance of student diversity and their backgrounds. She believes that this awareness allows faculty to foster deeper engagement and provide more effective support in the classroom.
Whether working with students impacted by the criminal justice system or advocating for equitable opportunities in higher education, Anderson encourages students to see their experiences as sources of strength, resilience and growth.
Through Project Rebound, she actively supports formerly incarcerated students as they navigate the challenges of higher education, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to succeed. She is also deeply committed to advancing social justice and equity for the LGBTQIA+ community.
"When students enter a classroom, they want to see themselves reflected in their instructors,” said Anderson. “When they see someone who looks like them, they realize that their own success is within reach."
Committed to breaking down barriers, Anderson also advocates for policies that promote educational access, striving to create opportunities for all students, regardless of their past circumstances.
